Core Happiness
Core happiness
Emotional health and managing your emotions effectively is crucial to your mental and physical wellness.
There are practices such as mindfulness or meditation that can help you stay focused on the present and bring awareness of feelings and emotions without judging them.
Core Happiness is a term developed by Dr Rangan Chatterjee and is explained more fully under Authors Opinion 2 in the next section.
It is essential to understand how this can benefit you on your journey to emotional wellness.

How emotionally are you?
Minaa B.’s book, Owning Our Struggles, explains what it means to grow emotionally and handle tough feelings better.
What is Emotional Immaturity? Emotional immaturity happens when someone struggles to handle their feelings. It can look like blaming others when they mess up, getting really angry and lashing out, or refusing to listen to what others need. Sometimes it means not being able to plan ahead, refusing to change, or expecting everyone else to fix things for them.
What is Emotional Maturity? Emotional maturity means learning to manage your feelings and actions. This includes naming your emotions, staying calm when upset, and listening to others without judging. It’s about taking responsibility for what you do, thinking before you react, and being kind even when you're frustrated. By practicing these skills, you can grow stronger, kinder, and handle life’s challenges better.
Dr. Rangan Chatterjee’s book, Happy Mind, Happy Life, explains Core Happiness in a way that’s easy to understand.
Imagine your happiness as a three-legged stool (chair). If one leg breaks, the stool falls. Each leg is important:
Contentment: Feeling calm and at peace with your life and choices. Control: Knowing you can make decisions and handle challenges. Alignment: Being the same person inside and out—your actions match your values.
Core Happiness is about building a strong base, so life’s problems don’t knock you down as easily. It’s not about being happy all the time—it’s about practicing every day to make your "happiness muscles" stronger, just like working out. Over time, your happiness stool will stand more firmly, even on tough days.
